Turf recycling
GreenMatter commits to using recycled fibre from Re-Match
The purpose behind GreenMatter is to develop and produce products from recycled synthetic turf. To this end, GreenMatter will be buying its raw material from Re-Match.
GreenMatter is a joint initiative backed by two Dutch companies; Lankhorst, a manufacturer of plastic products and services and W & H Sports, a supplier of high-quality sports and furnishing materials. The purpose behind GreenMatter is to develop and produce products from recycled synthetic turf. To this end, GreenMatter will be buying its raw material from Re-Match.
New lease of life to worn-out synthetic turf
In order to support clients such as municipalities and engineering firms with a truly circular solution, GreenMatter has launched a carefully assembled delivery program of battens and sideboards, picnic sets, park benches and terrace and deck boards. This program ensures customers that every kilogram of synthetic turf fibre that goes into the production of items in the GreenMatter range comes from recycled synthetic turf. This is made possible due to ETV-certified processing method at Re-Match.
Think ‘green’
As such GreenMatter builds on a growing trend to reduce the amount of microplastics in the environment through proper recycling. William van Diemen from W & H Sports explains: “We are proud that we can offer a fully circular concept together with our partners and that we can challenge the market to think green.” Stefan Hofman of Lankhorst Engineered Products adds: “Sustainability is in the genes of our company and we are experienced in working with recycled plastics. So GreenMatter is a perfect opportunity to combine the two.”
Growing demand
According to both initiators, it seems that the idea and purpose of GreenMatter resonates with the demand for sustainable products in the market. As an example, the municipalities of Utrecht and Amsterdam have shown their interest in GreenMatters products: “In Utrecht, side boards made out of recycled synthetic grass will soon be delivered for five fields and installed to preserve infill and prevent the spread of microplastics. And at the municipality of Amsterdam various park benches and picnic sets will be delivered,” says William van Diemen from W & H Sports.
In both municipalities, the idea that the worn-out synthetic turf gets a new lease of life in the form of products for on and around the sports field has been a decisive parameter in selecting GreenMatter as a supplier.
